Kurt Maloo
A hypnotic drumbeat, a catchy piano melody, a few airy saxophone phrases and a laid-back baritone voice were the simple ingredients for Double’s global smash hit ‘The Captain Of Her Heart’ from 1986. The name Double was a play on words: the Zurich-based duo recorded most of their own instrumental parts – effectively doubling themselves, so to speak. The cover photo of their first album was staged to make the duo look like a quartet. To mark what is effectively their 40th anniversary, Kurt Maloo joins us to celebrate the opening night of the 19th Festival da Jazz.
