The Jazzrausch Bigband from Munich has been one of the most fascinating acts at the Festival da Jazz for years. High time for a chat with its founder and leader, trombonist Roman Sladek.

The proportion of female jazz musicians is still low. Concerts by women are promoted at the Festival da Jazz. But this is by no means enough to redress the imbalance.

Interview

Helge Schneider, 62, is a brilliant comedian and cabaret artist. Above all, however, he is a multi-instrumentalist who knows his way around all areas of jazz. In St. Moritz, he will bring the festival to a close.

About the Festival

The Festival da Jazz is a festival of locations. A rare proximity to the artists connects all of the festival's venues. Even the main stage – the Dracula Club – only seats approximately 200 guests. Stars and legends such as Al Jarreau, Chick Correa, Diana Krall, and many more have performed in this extremely intimate setting. In addition to the main concerts, the Festival da Jazz spreads its groove in and around St. Moritz with a variety of free concerts: brunch and aperitif concerts on the Hauser Terrace, late-night concerts in the Sunny Bar, and many more.

Jazz is improvisation. Improvisation is jazz. With the "Hidden Sessions," the Festival da Jazz is launching a new, small but exquisite format that focuses on improvisation. Not by the musicians, but by the audience! Interested festival guests can subscribe to a news alert, which will provide very short notice of the "Hidden Sessions" concerts during the festival.

Breaking into the music business is a huge hurdle for many young artists. In addition to skill and luck, it takes a lot of energy, perseverance, persistence, and time to gain a foothold. The New Generation #JazzLab aims to make this step a little easier for motivated young talents.

With ‘Women in Jazz’, the Festival da Jazz has been working for more than 10 years to ensure that more women - especially in the field of instrumental jazz - are represented on stage.
