With her highly acclaimed 1996 debut album “Dreamland”, Madeleine Peyroux became the legitimate successor of Billie Holiday. Since then, Peyroux has continuously extended her repertoire, though keeping her charismatic and intimate voice. Last year Peyroux released the probably most extraordinary album of her impressive career so far. The album “Secular Hymns” was recorded at a concert in a church in Oxfordshire. Her music spans from the spiritual “Trampin” to a song by Allen Toussaint, to songs from Tom Waits and Linton Kwesi Johnson.
