Contrary to Xi Jinping, Daniel Schnyder doesn't follow any super power ambitions with his Silk Road project. For the bustling saxophonist and composer it is more about a musical rapprochement between Orient and Occident, where boundaries are overcome in a playful way. This intention already becomes evident when looking at the special instrumentation of the Silk Road ensemble: a classic string quartet is joined by the Chinese national instrument, the pipa, as well as by the Arabian instruments oud and ney.
