Trumpet player Enrico Rava, who is a self declared admirer of Miles Davis and Chet Baker, has been the alpha male of Italian jazz for many years. Under his wings many young talents have matured to become members of the Italian jazz elite. Rava’s music comes across in a natural and relaxed manner – it’s simply jazz. And there is of course the typical Rava-touch, a combination of melodious elegance and melancholic euphoria (yes, such a thing actually exists). Since his return to the label ECM his music has become even more sublime.
