The Mosaic Project

For many decades the gender roles in jazz have been clearly allocated: Women sing and men do the rest. And then there have been a number of female pianists who became powerfully involved in the jazz business – from Lil Hardin Armstrong and Mary Lou Williams to Geri Allen and Eliane Elias. It is therefore hardly surprising that the ultra dynamic power drummer Terri Lyne Carrington has been regarded as a sensational exception for a long time. For her ambitious Mosaic Project, Carrington managed to get Diane Reeves on board, one of the strongest voices of emancipated vocal jazz.
