The Manhattan Transfer

With «Manhattan Transfer» Jon Dos Passos wrote one of the defining urban novels of the 20th century. The book also distinguishes itself not least because of its fascinating multivoicedness and surprising changes of perspectives. Manhatten Transfer is of course also the name of a legendary vocal quartet from New York that modernised and popularised the vocal forms of urban America. The stylistic bandwidth of Manhatten Transfer spans from the era of swing, to doo-wop, jive, rock’n’roll right to the interpretation of the latest pop songs.
