A Legend's Night

Ahmad Jamal, who can count Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett among his fans, is a master of the staging of musical curiosities. The pianist, born in 1930, takes both his own compositions and trouvailles from the «Great American Songbook» and spontaneously forms artistic new musical showpieces. For this instant-composing magician of improvisation, appreciation of form and flexibility go hand in hand. At the age of 21, Mr. Jamal was already performing at the Carnegie Hall in New York – sharing the stage with legends like Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz.
