Othella Dallas & Orchestra
Before the Bebop revolution jazz was mainly played as dance music for entertainment: on the rigidly polished dance floor of popular ball rooms things could get quite wild when the swing big band started to play. Born in 1925, Othella Dallas is a direct link to this hedonistic era. Her international career as a dancer started with a talent competition at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Today Othella Dallas, who lives in Basel, is best known for her performances as an authentic and lively blues and jazz singer – still showing one of her famous step dance routines from time to time.
