Heiri Känzig
The love relationship between jazz and tango is by no means new. Gray Burton played together with Astor Piazzola, and Dino Saluzzi ventures into jazz almost habitually. Names like Piazzolla and Saluzzi of course bring the Bandoneon to mind, which was brought to Argentina by German immigrants. Together with his quintet Buenos Aires featuring the Bandoneon virtuoso Michael Zisman, Heiri Känzig doesn’t just jump on the tango and jazz bandwagon but presents an impassionate crossover formation full of emotion.
